Thinking about switching to a low-carbon heating system like an air source heat pump? The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) just got better news for homeowners looking to make the switch! Here’s how the recent changes can benefit you:
Simpler Application Process:
Previously, loft and cavity wall insulation recommendations on your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) could delay a BUS application. Now, as long as your EPC is valid (within the last 10 years), you can move forward with the BUS application for your air source heat pump or other low-carbon system, making the process smoother.
More Choice and Flexibility:
The BUS is now prepared to adjust grant levels in the future for properties not connected to the gas grid and self-built homes. This means the scheme can adapt to support the installation of low-carbon heating in a wider range of properties.
Expanded Options for Biomass Heating:
Looking for a multi-functional low-carbon system? Great news! Biomass boilers with built-in cooking functionality are now eligible for BUS grants, offering you more choice when considering a renewable heating solution.
Thinking Big? No Problem:
For larger properties like apartment buildings, the BUS has increased the maximum capacity for shared ground loops in ground source heat pump installations from 45kW to 300kW. This opens doors for bigger projects to benefit from low-carbon heating and grant support.
Focus on New Systems:
To ensure the BUS supports the transition to cleaner heating, applications for systems installed more than 120 days before the application date are no longer accepted. This means you can be confident that the BUS grant supports your brand new, energy-efficient heating system.
